The Adaptive Sports track is designed to provide the allied healthcare and fitness professional with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to effectively work in the adaptive sports field, including program management, coaching, strength and conditioning, health care services, and advocacy. Provides students with the expertise to enter the entry-level job market with knowledge of sound principles of fitness and developmentally appropriate recreation. Kinesiology prepares students for careers or further study in fitness, health promotion, fitness assessment and exercise prescription, research, and the clinical aspects of the allied health field, such as cardiac rehabilitation. Completion of this degree with appropriate GPA guarantees transfer to a California State University offering degrees in physical education, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition or athletic training, as well as teacher credentialing programs. Upon successful completion of the teaching certification courses, and student teaching, students will become certified K-6, 7-12 or K-12 Physical Education teachers. In addition to the eight core courses (Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Foundations of Physical Movement, Fundamentals of Exercise and Nutrition, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Measurement/Evaluation and Prescription in Physical Education, Organization and Administration of Physical Education, Health and Athletics and Physiology of Exercise) students will take Group Exercise, Weight Training, Movement Training, Program Design, Methods of Teaching Strength Training and Conditioning and Physiology of Exercise. Students interested in the Strength and Conditioning track take a core set of eight classes that develop an understanding of the scientific, physical, social and psychological foundation of movement.
